The petition of John Bird of Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire, 10 January 1698

To the Right Wor[shi]pfull the Justices of the peace & Quor[um] for the County of Hertf[ord]: Assembled at Hertf[ord] at the Gen[er]all Quarter Sessions of the peace there held on Monday the 10th day of January 1697
Sheweth,
That yo[u]r Wor[shi]ps poor aged petitioner John Bird of Barkhamsted St Peter in the sayd County, being above Eighty yeares of age, & unable to doe any Worke, & Afflicted with the Numbe palsey, & being at p[re]sent one of the poor pentioners of this County, & hearing that your Wor[shi]ps (by reason of the pentioners being by death reduced to a small Number) Intend to Enlarge the pentions of those that are left living Humbly Begs an Inlargement of his, (being past his Labour, & his Allowance being now Fower pounds p[er] Annu[m]) by reason of his Great age & Infirmity;
And your poor Humble petitioner shall daylie pray &c
Ordered to lye till next session in Court.
