The petition of John Bickerton of Wrenbury, Cheshire, Trinity 1661

To the Right Wor[shipfu]ll the Justices of the Peace for the County Palatine of Chester.

The humble Peti[ti]on of John Bickerton of the p[a]rish of Wrenbury

Humbly sheweth

That in the beginninge of the late warres of Ireland your poore Petic[i]oner wente a volluntyre souldier into Ireland vnder the Com[m]aund of my Lord Duke of Albermere then Colonell Munckes and continued there vnder his Commaund Twoo yeares and vpwards: And afterwards was vnder the Commaund of Collonell Warnes. And after made a Sargant, vnder the Com[m]aund of Colonell Russell in Captayne Wards Company which was slayne by the Shott of a Cannon, and Continued in the same Regiment till the late Kings Armyes were scattered: dureinge which tyme y[ou]r poore Petic[i]oner receiued seu[er]all wounds and shottes and by those shotts and hurts as much weakened and vnable to followe his Trade beinge a Shoomaker, and haueinge a wife and Three small Children is like to come to much wante and pou[er]tie.

In Considerac[i]on whereof y[ou]r poore Petic[i]oner humblie beseecheth your Wor[shi]pes out of your Pious & Godly Charity to graunt him some Pention towards the mayntenance of him his wife and Children: And as in duty bound hee shall ever pray &c
