The petition of John Bevan, City and County of Worcester, July 1660

To the Kings most excellent Maiestye

The humble petition of John Bevan.

Sheweth

That yo[u]r peticoner beinge in Colchester vnder S[i]r Charles Lucas was after Surrender of the Towne carryed prisoner to Woodstock where he remained in durance seaven and twenty weekes and vpward.

That yo[u]r petic[i]oners aged Father and himselfe being inhabitants of Worcester were (after yo[u]r Ma[jes]ties dep[ar]ture there) plundred & stripd of all they had wherby they were disabled to follow their Callings and soe they and their families have suffred extreamely ever since and ben reduced to miserable poverty, That the Petic[i]oner hath received many wounds and shote in body to the frequent danger and hazard of his life for his loyaltye and Allegeance to yo[u]r Ma[jes]ties Cause and Person.

Yo[u]r Peticoner therfore humbly desireth yo[u]r Ma[jes]tie to admitt him into the number of the Poore Knights of Windsor, and if places be not void there hee humbly prayeth that p[er]sons there now in placed and placed by ye late Vsurper Oliver Cromwell may be displaced and therby yo[u]r poore Petic[i]oner releived, or therwise disposd of as yo[u]r Ma[jes]tie shall herafter thinke fitt

And yo[u]r Petic[i]oner shall ever pray &c
