The petition of John Bartrum of Broad Clyst, Devon, Michaelmas 1684

To the Right Wor[shi]pp[fu]ll his Ma[jes]ties Justices of the peace for the County of Devon.
The humble Petition of John Bartrum of the Parish of Broadclist Carpenter, sheweth unto yo[u]r Worships, that yo[u]r Petic[i]oner hath served his late Ma[jes]tie of blessed memory as a drummer first against the Scotts, in the North of England in the yeare 1639: And afterwards all along in his said Ma[jes]ties service under the Com[m]and of S[i]r John Acland, and afterwards under the Com[m]and of S[i]r Richard Chomley and other Commanders in the Seiges against Lyme, Plimouth, Dartmouth, Tawnton and sev[er]all other places dureing the late unnaturall Warr, and Received sev[er]all wounds in the said service; and ever since hath continued Loyall, and faithfull to the Established Governm[en]t, and by his Labour hath maintained himselfe and his family, till now Age and weaknesse com[m]ing upon him, hee is utterly unable to subsist without reliefe, having alsoe an Aged weake wife to maintaine:
Yo[u]r Petic[i]oner humbly prayeth that he may have such a Pension as yo[u]r Worships shall thinke fitt:
And yo[u]r Petic[i]oner as in duty bound shall ever pray &c
