The petition of John ap Richard of Ruabon, Denbighshire, 4 October 1664

To the right Wor[ship]full his Ma[jes]ties Deputy Lif[tenan]ts and his Ma[jes]ties Justices of the peace Sitting at ye gen[er]all q[ua]rter Sessions for ye com[itatus] of Denbigh

The humble petic[i]on of John ap Richard of the p[ar]ish of Ruabon as followeth

Humbly sheweth

That yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r hath Been for the Space of three yeares a Soldier in his late Ma[je]sties Service our Soveraigne lord king Charles the First of glorious memory vnder ye Comand of Collonell Robert Ellice esq[ui]r[e] vnder whose Comand dureinge the time before menc[i]oned he hath both Faithfully and valiantly Continued in the Said Service firme and Stedfast to the end and never revolted And by reason of his Integrity and reality to his late Ma[jes]tie he was vehemently Wronged and greeuiously tormented by his implakeable enemies and by reason thereof is now become very poore and a great obiect of Charity havinge nothinge to releeve himself his Wief and five Small Children as the gentlemen Whose names are vnder Written will Justifie

In tender Considerac[i]on hereof Be pleased to take to yo[u]r serious and pious Considerac[i]on his Sadd distressed and dolefull condic[i]on and to Comisserate him soe farr as to graunt him a Pension according to his Ma[jes]ties his gracious Act of Parliament in that Behalfe made for the releevinge of Maymed soldiers Whereby he may have Somethinge to releeve him in his extreame poverty and therein yow will reape ye praiers of him his Wief & poore Children.
