The petition of John and Margerie Hall, Cheshire, Easter 1654

To the right wor[shipfu]ll the Justices of Peace att this Sessions assembled.
The humble Petition of John Hall & Margerie Hall of Namptwich Infants vnder the age of twenty and one sixteene yeares.
<Sheweth,> That yo[u]r petition[e]rs Father John Hall Raphe Hall & Edward Hall his brothers went about fiue yeares agone for the States seruice into Ireland where yo[u]r petition[e]rs father John Hall was a musketier vnder the Comand of Captaine Elliott & Regiment of Colonell Hercules Hunkes; And for the space of two yeares afterwards faithfully & valiantly serued in his Comand; But shortlie afterwards yo[u]r petition[e]rs father John Hall was was [sic.] there by the Com[m]on Enemy slayne; By occasion & greife of whose death yo[u]r petition[e]rs mother Ellen his wife shortly dyed; by whose industrie & paynes whilst shee was lyvinge yo[u]r petition[e]rs receiued liuelyhood. But now may it please yo[u]r good wor[shi]ps for want of Father & mother yo[u]r petition[e]rs (the one of them being a Cripple) are quite exposed to miserie & want Of all w[hi]ch by sufficient testimony yo[u]r petition[e]rs are ready to make proofe,
May it therefore please yo[u]r good wor[shi]ps to order yo[u]r distressed petition[e]rs such an yearely pension for preseruing them from famyne as you in yo[u]r graue wisdomes, Justice & Equitie shall thinke fitt
And yo[u]r petition[e]rs as in duty bound will eu[e]r pray for yo[u]r wor[shi]ps health & happines &c
