The petition of Joane Radford of Knutsford, Cheshire, 30 January 1651

To the hon[oura]ble S[i]r George Booth knight And Barronett And other the Justices of peace for this Commonwealth assembled at Knutsford the xxxth day of Januarie 1650
The humble petic[i]on of Joane Radford of the Cross towne of Knutsford wydowe
Humblie sheweth that Roger Radford yo[u]r petic[i]on[ers] sonne did for manie yeares serue as a listed souldier in the service of the Parliam[en]t vnder the Commaund of Colonell Leigh that about seven yeares since yo[u]r petic[i]on[er]s said sonne was killed in the sy[r]vice of the Parliament at the seege [illegible] of the Nantwich and leaft behind him a wife and two Children; That this hon[our]able bench was formerly pleased to order the said decedants wife for mainten[a]nce of her selfe and her twoe Children thertie shillings p[er] Ann[um] w[hi]ch hath beene paid vnto her accordingly. Nowe soe yt is may it please this this hon[oura]ble bench that yo[u]r petic[i]on[er] hath kept one of the said Children for the space of ten or twelue yeares last past And neu[er] Receaved any thing for the same soe that nowe yo[u]r petic[i]o[ner] her is like herself w[i]th the said Child to Come to Great want and miserie vnles Releeved by this hon[oura]ble bench.
The p[re]misses tenderly Considered and for as much as yo[u]r petic[i]on[er] is verie poore and aged and hath spent most of her estate in maintayninge the said Child myght please this hon[our]able bench to sett downe such order as that yo[u]r petic[i]on[er] may Receaue a p[ro]porc[i]onable p[ar]te of the said thertie shillings p[er] Ann[um] And haue some Releefe for the tyme past. And yo[u]r petic[i]on[er] shall eu[er] as in dutie bound pray &c
