The petition of Joane Mort of Weaverham, Cheshire, 11 April 1654

To the right wor[shi]ppfull the Justices of peace assembled at Middlewich for the holding of the Quarter sessions for this Countye
The petic[i]on of Joane Mort of Weu[er]ha[m] {in} the Countye aforesayd widowe
Sheweth to yo[u]r wor[shi]pps that yo[u]r peti[tioner’s] husband {si}nce warres began beeinge a faythfull {?soldier in} the parliament service going vnder the com[m]and of Captayne Barker in the Regiment of Collonel Daniel in Scotland there dyed of a vyolent Flux & fever as by the Certificate hereunto annexed may appeare leaving yo[u]r poore petic[ioner] & a poore child in great povertie & the small Cottage wherein they inhabited loose by reason whereof your petic[ioner] is likly to suffer great h{ar}dship vnles yo[u]r wor[shi]pps favors bee shewed to yo[u]r petic[ioner] herein.
May it therefore please yo[u]r wor[shi]pps to order that yo[u]r petic[ioner] may haue the like penc[i]on allowed her that is afforded to poore widowes in the like case & yo[u]r petic[ioner] as in duty bound shall pray &c

<It is ordered by this Courte that the Churchwardens & ou[er]seers of the poore of Wau[er]ham doe from henceforth pay the peitc[i]on[er] six pence p[er] weeke vntill further Order>
