The humble petition of Joane Maykin of Hankeylow Widd[ow]
Shewinge
That whereas yo[u]r pet[ition]er haueinge her husband Slaine in his late ma[jes]ties seruice beinge one of the Life Guard vnd[e]r the Conduct & Command of the Right honno[ra]ble Mountague Earle of Linsey as Serjant Whittakers and diuerse others, vnder the same command Can very truly testifie, yo[u]r pet[itione]r beinge left very despicable & Comfortlesse; with fower small Children haueinge nothinge where withall to Maintaine yo[u]r pet[itione]r & them, but yo[u]r pet[itione]rs hard labour, yet through the prouidence & Mercy of God, yo[u]r pet[itione]r hath with great Care labour sufferinge and dilligence brought them vp honnestly and truly, without the extraordinary burden of any, as it is well knowne to yo[u]r pet[itione]rs Good Neeb[ou]rs whose names are subscribed & whose releife and assistaince hath not binne wantinge.
The pr[e]mises Considdered may it therefore please yo[u]r good Wor[shi]pps to take into yo[u]r pious Considerac[i]ons the deplorable Condittion of a poore Widd[ow] & Fatherlesse Children & the hardshipp yo[u]r pet[itione]r hath [?vndergeines] and the losses of a husband (w[hi]ch was vnder god) yo[u]r pet[itione]rs onely support as alsoe, all his areares. In recompence whereof, let yo[u]r good wor[shi]pps be pleased to appoint yo[u]r poore and most humble pet[itio]n[e]r a yearly pension for sup[p]ly and manteynance as yow in yo[u]r prudences shall thinke fitt, and my nessessityes losses and Sufferinges required and yo[u]r pet[itione]rs and her, as in duty bound will euer pray for yo[u]r wor[shi]pps prosperityes
