The petition of Jane Heyes of Shavington-cum-Gresty, Cheshire, Epiphany 1652
To the hon[oura]ble Justices of peace for the Com[m]onwealth assembled at the Quarter Sessions houlden for this County of Chester
The humble petition of Jane Heyes widdow.
Sheweing That Thomas Heyes yo[u]r pet[ition]ers late husband deceased being a souldier for the Towneshipp of Shavington & Grestie w[i]thin the hundred of Wichmalbank vnder the Com[m]and of Major George Malbone and being w[i]th him in service at the last battell at Worcester about ye third day of September last past whoe in ferce pursute of the Enimy entring the sayd Towne where yo[u]r said Pe[ition]ers husband was then cast downe & many more of his fellowes accedentally fell vpon him, yt his body was soe breasted & crushed w[i]th the waight yt it blackned (alsoe he had a Com[m]on desease then distpersed amongst the Army) yt he being brought to the place of dwelling w[i]thin a fewe dayes after deyed whose death tended to the vtter vndoeing of yo[u]r poore petitioner and hir child who had nothing to subsist vpon but what hee got w[i]th his paynfull industrye
May it therefore please yo[u]r hon[ou]rs to take the pr[e]misses into your charratable Considerac[i]ons & grant yt your poore pet[ition]er may be admitted amongst ye pentioners to receiue such Contribution as the late Act in yt kind doth p[ro]vide the rather because shee hath now opertunity to bynd hir sonne Apprentice to a Tealor, if shee had a competent some of money to giue him and yo[u]r poore pet[ition]er shall be ever bound in duty to pray &c
I doe hereby certefie, that this Petitionours husband was a souldier vnder my Com[m]and at Worcester at the fight there as is layed downe in this Petition.
