The petition of Jane Griffin of Chichester, Sussex, January 1653

To the right hon[ourab]le the Justices of the peace for the Western part of the Countie of Sussex
The humble peticon of Jane Griffin widowe ye late wiffe of Owin Griffin
Humblie sheweth
That yo[u]r petic[i]on[er]s late husband was a souldiour in ye Parliam[en]ts service
That yo[u]r petic[i]oners husband was wounded in the Parliam[en]ts service of w[hi]ch wounds hee languished and is latlie dead leaveing yo[u]r petic[i]on[er] and one Child about twoe yeares old
That yo[u]r petic[i]on[er] is lame and not able to make any p[ro]vision for her selfe or child having noe estate at all
May it please yo[u]r wo[rshi]pps ye pr[e]misses considered to make allowance to yo[u]r petic[i]on[er] out of ye monyes raised for charitable vses for ye maintenance of yo[u]r petic[i]on[er] & her child
And shee shall daylie pray &c.
