The petition of Jane verch Richard of Chirk, Denbighshire, 11 April 1648

To the Right worshippfull his ma[jes]ties iustices of the peace at the quarter cessions houlden for the County of Denbigh

The humble petition of Jane vz Richard the late wife of Thomas Oliver of higher Chirke in the sayd County of Denbigh late deceased.

Humbly sh{e}weth vnto yo[u]r worrshipps That the sayd Jane is a poore widowe aged about threescore yeares of honest life and Conversation her sayd husband Thomas Oliver was in the service of Sir Thomas Midleton k[nigh]t diuerse yeares and also was in the service for kinge and p[ar]lam[en]t two yeares at the least vnder Captayne Pichford the best service that he could he p[er]formed to his last breath. he adventured his life for the good of the state and comon wealth. And at last was taken prisoner by Sir John Watts men who was then governour of Chirke Castle and theire he remayned in prison Three and thyrrty weeks in great misery and want & at the last when he was redy to perish he was exchanged & came to Oswestree to his Colo[u]rs & within one moneth next after at Oswestrees Towne end was shott through his body by two of Chirke Castle men at the same tyme with seuerall bulletts through is his brest and through his thigh & within 24 houres after he died the sayd Jane & his sonne beinge left destitute of any meanes to mantayne themselues but what she hath of god & good people. Therefore in her distresse and misery she made bould to shewe vnto yo[ur] worrshipps her losse & great misery and want not doubtinge but yo[u]r worr[ships] will take some course whereby she may be relieved. And the sayd Jane accordinge to her bounden duty will dayly praye for yo[u]r worr[ships] felicity and happines & thus she prayeth for gods love
