The petition of Jane Dobson of Euxton, Lancashire, 11 October 1652

To the right wor[shipfu]ll the Justices of peace and Cora[m] now sitting the Sessions of peace at Wigan theise.
The humble petic[i]on of the poore aged and distressed widdow Jane Dobson sheweth:
That yo[u]r wor[shi]ps pet[itione]rs husband Richard Dobson: was pressed For the Towne of Aughton nere Ormschurch: For to bee a Sould[ie]r for the States Service in Ireland: in w[hi]ch service, hee was either slaine or dyed vpon sicknes at Belfast in Ireland; By reason whereof y[ou]r poore pet[itione]r being laime and having nothing to live vpon is very likely to bee lost and impoverished for ever:
Wherefore y[ou]r poore pet[itione]r humbly Craveth that vpon serious Considerac[i]on of the pr[e]miss[e]s shee may haue yo[u]r wor[shi]ps Order for some releiffe & manteynance out of the said Towne of Aughton: for w[hi]ch her husband: (who vnd[e]r god was all her support) lost his lyffe towards the releiueing of y[ou]r pet[itione]r. And as obliged (for soe pious & charitable an Act) shee will ever praie for y[ou]r worships eternall happines &c.
