The petition of Jane Barton, City and County of Nottingham, 1 April 1647

To the Hono[ura]ble Com[m]ittie of Nott[ingham].

<The humble petition of Jane Barton Widdow>

Most humbly sheweth that yo[u]r petition[e]rs late housband hath for ye space of three yeares served as a Souldier vnder ye Com[m]aund of Lieut[enant] Collonell Georg Hutchinson, And when ye briggs was taken he lost his horse and his Armes w[hi]ch he had bought w[i]th his owne monyes, neither received he any pay for ye time he served as a horsman, And being lately deceased hath left yo[u]r petitioner a most poore destitute and healplesse widdow and one Infant at her brests, being neither able to relieve it nor her selfe.

May it therefore please yo[u]r Hono[u]rs uppon yo[u]r compassionate consideration hereof by such meanes as in yo[u]r Christian Charity you shall thinke most fitt graciously to releive ye widdow and ye fatherless. And yo[u]r petition[e]r shall ever pray &c.

Mr Hough, Pay ten shillings to the Pet[itione]r in p[ar]te of monies oweing to her late husband for pay and this shall be yo[u]r war[ran]t. Given vnd[e]r o[u]r hands the first day of Aprill 1647.
