The petition of James Ward of Borwick, Lancashire, 14 July 1674

To the Right worshipp[fu]ll his Ma[jes]ties Justices of Peace & Quor[um] att the Sessions holden at Lanc[aste]r the 14rd July [16]74
The humble petic[i]on of James Ward of Borwick a poore maymed and Indigent Souldier.
Sheweth
That yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r being Extreame old and poore and is not where with able to help himselfe by reason of his old age humbly beggs a further Allowance in the pay as poore maymed Souldiers who hath beene faithfull from the beginning as he can make forth and was never in the same pay before the last yeare w[hi]ch was sixe shillings Eight pence being very smale towards the maintaneance of yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r without yo[u]r worshipps favorable Constructions vpon him to grant him a further allowance will be very like & in great danger to starve
May it therefore please yo[u]r good worshipps to seriously Consider of the pr[e]misses whereby yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r may be releived & he in duety bound will ever pray &c
