The petition of James Tutt of Taunton, Somerset, 13 July 1652

To the right Wor[shipfu]ll the Justices of the Peace now assembled att the Castle of Taunton in the Sessions held there for the Countie of Som[er]sett.
The humble petic[i]on of James Tutt of Taunton aforesayd Fuller
Sheweth.
That yo[u]r pet[itione]r hath beene by the space of 9 or 10: yeares a souldier in the States service, and by his last March towards Worcester, hee receiued a great & tediouse sicknes having been Sicke sixteene weekes or thereabouts and is now vnder the Chiurgions hands to the vtter undoeing of his poore wife & child, yo[u]r peticon[e]r neuer having received of any comforte for his losses and his extremity he is now in,
Therefor yo[u]r pet[itione]r doth humbly desire that his former service and the extremity he is now in, by your favo[u]rable bountie (otherwise yo[u]r poore pet[itione]r is like to p[e]rish) may bee considered of as yo[u]r wor[shi]pps may thinke fitt And yo[u]r pet[itione]r w[i]th his distressed wife & child shall bee eu[er] bound to pray &c
