The petition of James Towers, Westmorland, 24 April 1646

To ye hono[u]rable ye Standinge Com[m]ittee for ye County of westm[o]rland now resideing in ye Barrony of Kendall
The Humble Petitio[n] of James Tow[e]rs.
Sheweth yt whereas yo[u]r said Pet[itione]r haueinge receiued by ye Enemy att Skipton Cruell wounds Vizt one in his back, anoth[e]r in his belly anoth[e]r in his Arme; beinge a longe tyme vnd[e]r surgeon Pearsons Hands, who takeing noe great care of his wounds Had like to have cost him his life, but as it pleased god (although hee was in a most desp[er]ate Condic[i]on) his aforesaid Surgeon Pearson left him, whereupo[n] Mr Gaunt took him in hand, vnd[e]r whose hands hee hath beene twelue weeks; and (god be praised) hee is now in a good condic[i]on (although not totally sound) and his wounds very well recou[e]red; Therefore yo[u]r s[ai]d Pet[itione]r desires yt you will take Consideracon of his miserable Condic[i]on yt hee may Content his surgion for his Industry and Paines, ye value whereof hee referrs to yo[u]r Judgem[en]t, In Considerac[i]on whereof yo[u]r said pet[itione]r shall (as in duety bound dayly pray &c.
Yo[u]r aforesaid Pet[itione]r alsoe is A moneth behind of his pay w[hi]ch hee desires you to take ye like Consid[e]racion of.
Kendall 24o April 1646.
Ordered that ye tre[asure]r pay to James Tow[e]rs ye som[m]e 42 s. being a monethes pay to him ended vpon his daye and for ye satisfacc[i]on of the Chirurgeon for ye Once, ye same shal be taken into Considerac[i]on at the next sitting of this Com[m]ittee.
