The petition of James Taylor of Castleton, Lancashire, 21 July 1653

To the right wor[shi]pfull the Justices of peace and quoru[m] at the Sessions houlden at manchester the xxith daie of July in the yeare of our Lord god One Thowsand Sixe hundred Fiftie and Three. The humble petic[i]on of James Taylor of Castleton in the p[ar]ishe of Rachdale who hath

humbly sheweth that your poore petic[i]oner hath beene a souldier and serued in the warrs for the p[ar]liament since the 18th daie of december 1642 till the beginning of Februarie last 1652 first vnder the Comaund of Captaine James Scholefeld in the regiment of Collonell Raphe Asheton senior et Junior and afterwards vnder the Comaund of Captaine Clayton in the Regiment of Collonell Standishe and afterwards in Scotland vnder in the Regiment of Collonell William Daniell vnder whose comaund your poore petic[i]oner was maymed at the Towne of Saint Johnston in the Scotland [sic.] and there by is vtterly disabled to gett his lyueinge by his handye labor and haueinge noe meanes in the world to maintaine himselfe with all is ether lyke to begg or starue vnlesse it may please your good wor[shi]ps to grant your order that hee may haue the lyke Allowance towards his maintineance as other souldiers in of the like condic[i]on haue formerly had And in soe doeinge your poore petic[i]oner shall and will euer as in dutie be bound dayly to pray for your healths and happie dayes
