The Humble Petition of James Symons of Cullumpton in the County of Devon
Most Humbly Sheweth
That yo[u]r poore Petition[e]r in the late Rebellion in Scotland served his late Ma[jes]tie of ever blessed Memory as a Foot Souldier in the Regiment of S[i]r James Pennyman under the command of Captaine Francis Ranger, & afterwards in Oxford & Woodstock & Dudley Castle where he Received a Wound in his left Arm w[hi]ch hath totally disabled him from useing the same; & haveing Received severall other Wounds Cutts & Shotts in the said Service (being now aged Foure Score yeares & upwards) is not able to Releive or maintaine himselfe any longer. Hee therefore doth humbly implore yo[u]r Wor[shi]pps to commiserate his deplorable Condition, & Certifie the Same for him to the Rest of his Ma[jes]ties Justices of Peace at the next Gennerall Quarter Sessions of the Peace to be held for this County of Devon that he may be admitted as a Pensioner as others in ye like case have been
And as in duty bound yo[u]r poore petition[e]r shall ever pray &c.
Wee whose names are Subscribed have examined the Matter contained in this Petition & finde it to be true It being attested by severall other persons therefore doe desire that he may be admitted as a Pension[e]r
