The petition of James Swayne, City of London, undated

To ye wo[rshipfu]ll Justices of ye Peace for ye County of Wilts[hire] sittinge at ye Gen[er]all Quarter sessions held at New Sarum.

The humble Petic[i]on of James Swayne Gentleman being lately A soldier in ye parl[iamen]t Army

<Sheweth:>

That yo[u]r Petic[i]on[e]r hauinge byn A Soldier in ye service for the Parl[iamen]t in w[hi]ch said service lost ye vse of his Right hand & left Arme at ye fight at Malborough in ye said County of Wilts[hire], By w[hi]ch meanes yo[u]r Petic[i]on[e]r through sicknes & want of Maynteynance to support him, was forced & constrayned to repaire into Dorcett shire to his Freinds, who liued in Blanford, who by reason of theire <[?gret lost] &> disafection to ye Pal[iamen]t would afford yo[u]r Petic[i]on[e]r noe releife, as by a Certificate vnder ye hand of Col[one]l Ludlow for his true & faithfull service will appeare w[hi]ch is heerevnto annexed. And alsoe (by another certificate heerevnto annexed vnder ye hands of ye Comittee of ye County of Dorecett:) will more fully appeare.

Yo[u]r Petic[i]on[e]r in Regard of ye losse of his Right hand, & other despearte [sic.] wounds, w[hi]ch he then rec[eive]d w[hi]ch brought him to great Missery by reson of ye great charge & Expence lyinge vnder ye Surgeons hands:

Most humbly craueth yo[u]r good wo[rshi]ps to be pleased seeinge he rec[eive]d his wounds in this County & for [illegible] his pr[e]sent supply, he beinge in a very sad condition for ye pr[e]sent, for want of meanes, yt yo[u]r wo[rshi]ps wil be pleased to allow him what for ye pr[e]servac[i]on of his liuelihood, what in yo[u]r good wisedomes shall seeme meete either from ye Tre[asure]r of this County or otherwise out of ye County stock.

For w[hi]ch yo[u]r Petic[i]on[e]r shal be in all duty bound to pray &c
