The petition of James Miles, Garrison of Gloucester, 25 May 1643

To the Ho[nora]ble Sir Will[ia]m Waller k[nigh]t.
The humble petic[i]on of James Miles a maymed soldyer a trouper vnder the Right Ho[nora]ble the Earle of Stamford & left behind wounded at Hereford & there kept prisoner vntill he was enlarged by yo[u]r hono[u]r
Shewinge that yo[u]r Ho[no]r was hertofore favourably pleased, but that yo[u]r more serious occasions called you away, to speake w[i]th yo[u]r petitc[i]oner & to allow him som[m]e competent meanes for his present sustentac[i]on, yet notw[i]thstandinge yo[u]r poore peticoner liveth in want & is like miserably to suffer for want of pr[e]sent supplyes to releiue his necessytyes vnless as formerly to others yo[u]r hon[ou]r be pleased to releiue his wants
May yo[u]r hono[u]r be therefore, in this his extreame miserey, be favourable vnto him, and he as duty byndes him shall eu[e]r pray for yo[u]r hono[u]rs happyness here & blessedness hereafter
Captain Blany I would haue you pay vnto the Petitioner the sum[m] of five pounds, and this shall be your warrant. 25. May 1643.
