The petition of Izaac Gee of Werneth and John Rodes of Hattersley, Cheshire, 15 January 1661

To the Right worship[fu]ll his Ma[jes]t[y]s Justices of the peace and Quorum sittinge at the Generall sessions at [illegible] Northwich within ye County of Chester ye 15th day of January 1660.

The humble petic[i]on of Izaac Gee of Wirneth and John Rodes of Hattersley both within ye County afforesaid:

Sheweth that your petitioners forth of their fidelity and Loyallty to their exiled Prince and anointed soueraigne in or about August 1659 did put themselues as inlisted Souldiers vnder the Comand off Colonell Thomas Leegh of Adlingtonn Esquier at the new ryseinge (so commonly called) for the Towneshippe of Matley: But more perticularly for one John Collier, and one John Chadwicke of Matley afforesaid, who at that tyme were apointed to serue as trained souldiers for the said Towneshippe: But in regard the said Collier and Chadwicke were altogether vnwillinge to serue and beare armes in that designe, did forthwith repaire to your said p[etitione]rs And did then entreat your said p[etitione]rs to beare the said Armes and to serue in that expedition on their behalfe For which said seruice the said John Collier and John Chadwicke did then faithfully assume and promise to pay vnto your said petitioners the sume of 3 li. 10 s. a peece within 3 or 4 dayes next followinge that is to say ye said Collier would pay vnto y[ou]r said p[etitone]r Izaac Gee and ye said Chadwicke would pay vnto y[ou]r said p[etitione]r John Rodes. But ye said Collier and Chadwick not regardinge their promise the same hath denyed and still doth deny to pay the same although they haue been therevnto often required by your said p[etitione]rs

May it please your good worships to take the premisses into your wise considerac[i]ons and seeinge god hath put into yowr power both legall and military power, be pleased to order that your said petitioners may be Forthwith payd or otherwise satisfyed as in discretion your worships shall thinke fitt: And your said petitioners shall euer pray for your worships health and eternall happinesse:
