The petition of Isaac Burie of Rochdale, Lancashire, Epiphany 1647

To the Right wor[shipfu]ll, his Maiesties Justices of peace & quor[um] at the gen[er]all Sessions houlden at Manchester.
The humble petic[i]on of Isaac Burie a souldier in Col[one]l Assheton his Company
Humbly
Sheweth that since the begining of these distracted tymes of warr, yo[u]r pet[itioner] hath beene, and is a souldier, and being hyred by Michaell Butterworth to carry his armes, did continually resyde and dwell with him at his owne house in Rachdall parrish at such tymes as hee was not vpon speciall seruice till the tyme hee was married, yo[u]r pet[itione]r, hath beene married two yeares and vpward, and liued within the said parrish and not else where, haueing a wife and one child which by gods blessing hee through his industrie and paynes takeing hath mayntayned, and not beene any wayes chargeable to the said parrish, Some neighbors rather vppon envy then any Just cause endevor themselues to expell and put yo[u]r pet[itione]r, and his wife and child out of the said parrish and threaten to cause his Landlord fyned in 20 s., a month for setting him houseing for his money Yo[u]r pet[itione]r, haueing no other residence or place of abode, is enforced to sue to yo[u]r good wor[shi]ps for reliefe hopeing hee bahaueing himselfe honestly may remayne where hee is, And not his Landlord bee damnified for intertayneing him, being so long setled, or that hee may haue some other Convenient habitac[i]on allowed within the said parrish hee payeing for the same and behaueing himselfe honestly
May it please yo[u]r good wor[shi]ps, the pr[e]misses considered to releeue yo[u]r pet[itione]r, vppon his Just complaynt And to allow him such place of residence and abode within the said parrish, as yo[u]r wor[shi]ps shall thinke fitt And yo[u]r pet[itione]r as in duty bound will dayly praye &c
