The petition of Hugh Stubs of Shurlach, Cheshire, 14 January 1673

To the Right Worshipfull his Ma[jes]ties Justesses of the Peace at this present quarter Sessions at Chester the 14th of January 1672
The humble petition of Hugh Stubs of Shurlach in the Countie afforesaid laboror
Humblie sheweth vnto yo[u]r Worships that yo[u]r poore petit[ioner] was a soulder at Cholmondley, and at Beiston Castle and at the sigh [sic.] at Nantwich, and was shott at Cholmondly into the thigh and ta was taken prisoner and brought vnto the Nantwich where yo[u]r poore petitioner remained 26 weekes and receiued much hard=ship dureinge the said terme, and lickwise yo[u]r poore petit[ioner] did beate a vallanteare drum in the Nantwich when Lambart was at Renbery and was at Winnington rase vnder the Com[m]and of Col[one]l Massey and beinge that yo[u]r poore petiti[oner] hee haueinge a wife and fiue small Children is brought into pouertie and want and hath nothinge to releiue them w[i]th all but what hee doth get w[i]th his owne hand labor w[hi]ch is but small to mentaine such a famely is forced to petition for some reliefe
May it theirefore plaise yo[u]r wor[ship to Consider the premises and to admitt yo[u]r poore peti[tioner] to bee a pentioner soe that hee may haue some thinge towards the releiueinge of himselfe & his famely and as hee is bound will ever pray &c
