The petition of Hugh Prescott of Warndon, Worcestershire, July 1660

To the Kings Most Excellent Ma[jes]tie

The humble petic[i]on of Hugh Prescott of Warndon in the County of Worcester

Humbly Sheweth

That yo[u]r pet[itione]r for his Loyalty & faithfullness to yo[u]r father of (blessed memory) hath suffered verry much, euen to his vtter ruine, of himselfe wife & six smale Childeren, and alsoe in yo[u]r Sacred Ma[jes]ties service at Worcester to the Losse at yt time of 120 pounds whilst the Barbarous Souldiers of yt grand Rebell Cromwell did hang yo[u]r pet[itione]r in a Tree till death (as they Conceved besides other sadd Sufferings as may at large appeare in the Certificate annexed.

May it please yo[u]r Sacred Ma[jes]tie to take his distressed Condic[i]on into yo[u]r Compassionate Eye & order him an almes man (or beadsmans) place in the Chathedrall Church of Worcester in the roome of Robert Dauis whoe was the last lawfull incumbent, & is dead; and a pensioner as a maimed Souldier for the County of Worcester.

And yo[u]r petico[n]er w[i]th his wife & Childeren Shall as in duty bound pray for yo[u]r Ma[jes]ties happie raigne & prosperity &c
