The petition of Hugh Northcott of South Tawton, Devon, 30 April 1690

To the Worshippfull their Maj[es]ties justices of the peace at the generall Sessions held at the Castle of Exon for the said County of Devon theise
The Humble petition of Hugh Northcott of the Parish of Southtawton in the said County of Devon husbandman sheweth
That yo[u]r poore petitioner served his late Maj[es]tie King Charles the first of blessed memory As a Souldier for the space of two yeares time and upward, under the Command of Capt[ain] Northleigh and Captaine Jefford in the Regiment of S[i]r Ralph Hopton, and never deserted his service in all that time; in which service he rec[eive]d a wound on his thigh with a bullett yet visible to be seene upon him; by meanes whereof he is become soe infirme that he is disabled from getting of his livelyhood and therefore humbly desires this honourable Court take the pr[e]misses into Considerac[i]on, and to direct and order That a yearely pension may be paid to him out of the County Stock; as is already done in such causes And yo[u]r petition[e]r as in all duty bound shall ever pray &c
Wee whose Names are hereund[e]r subscribed inhabitants of the said Parish of Southtawton doe hereby certyfy, that wee beleive the contents of the above written petition to be true, and that the said Hugh Northcott hath had releife from the Parish of Southtawton Witnes o[u]r hands this 30th day of Aprill 1690
