The petition of Hugh Dawson of Allendale, Northumberland, 15 July 1685

To the Honno[ra]ble his Ma[jes]ties Justices of the peace Assembled att the generall Quarter Sessions of the peace holden att Hexham for this Countie

The humble pet[it]ion of Hugh Dawson of Allendale

Humbly sheweth,

That whereas yo[u]r pet[it]ion[e]r haueing formerly served both his ma[jes]ties of blessed Memorie in the late warres where hee spent a great parte of his meanes in the said service and synce, soe as he is fallen into great decaie want & povertie hee being a poore weake Lamed and decrepett Creature haueing nothing to releeve himselfe withall But what pious and Charrittable hearted people bestowes upon him hee by reason of his Age being not able to worke or help himselfe in this miserable Condition.

Wherefore yo[u]r peti[ti]on[e]r humbly praies yo[u]r Honnors would bee graciously pleased (the p[re]misses Considered) to take the same into yo[u]r pious & serious Considerations soe as hee may haue an order graunted forth vnder the seale of the sessions that hee may haue Releife forth of the parish of Allendale where hee was borne and is now and hath allwaies remained as y[ou]r honnors in yo[u]r wisdomes shall thinke fitt And he your poore & distressed peti[ti]on[e]r shall euer bee bound to praie &c.
