The petition of Henry Wright of Nantwich, Cheshire, 9 July 1661

To the Kings Ma[jes]ties ho[noura]ble Justices of the Peace at the Quarter Sessions houlden in Naptw[i]ch the 9th July 1661
The humble Petic[i]on of Henry Wright of Namptw[i]ch shoemaker
<Sheweth> vnto yo[u]r hon[ou]rs that yo[u]r poore Petic[i]on[e]rs late Father serued as a private Souldier in the Kingdome of Ireland in the Regiment of S[i]r Charles Vauiser in the beginninge of the warres in that Kingdome against the Irish Rebbells for the space of Fower yeares dureing all w[hi]ch tyme he behaued himselfe as a valiant Souldier to the loss of his life in those warres by reason whereof yo[u]r poore petic[i]on[e]r being then a tender Infant was left Fatherless w[i]th out any comfort of Freinds able, or meanes to bring him vp soe that yo[u]r poore petic[i]on[e]r hath vndergone much penurie and hardshipp and is for the future likely soe to doe if yo[u]r hono[u]rs releiue him not.
May it therefore please this ho[noura]ble Co[u]rt the premisses considered to take yo[u]r poore petic[i]on[e]rs lamentable condic[i]on into yo[u]r graue considerac[i]ons, and grant vnto yo[u]r poore Petic[i]on[e]r: a yearely pension, that for ruine of yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r may be preuented And he haue cause as in duty is bound ever to pray for yo[u]r hono[u]rs &c
