The petition of Henry Ticknar, Thomas Rainsborough’s Regiment, 8 November 1648

To the Right Hono[ura]ble the Com[m]ittee of Lords & Com[m]ons for the Armye
The humble petic[i]on of Henry Ticknar:
Sheweth:
That your petic[i]on[e]r hath faithfullie serued theis Parliam[en]t in the Regim[en]t of Col[one]l Lilbourne vnder the Com[m]and of Capt[ain] Stephen Caine as A priuate souldier And afterwards in the Regim[en]t of Col[one]l Tychbourne, and now belonginge to Col[one]l Rainseborow allsoe vnder Com[m]aund of Capt[ain] John Ouerstreet in the Army of the Right hon[oura]ble Thomas Lord Fairfaix As by the seu[er]all Musters may Appeare:
That whereas yo[u]r said petic[i]on[e]r haueing lost his left hand in the late seruice of Colchest[e]r vnder the Comaund aforesaid whereby hee is not onelie vncapeable of his future liuelihood but is allsoe att present (beeing farr from Friends in A very sadd & miserable Condic[i]on for wante of A Competent subsistance And haueing much in Arrears:
Your petic[i]on[e]r humbly Imploreth yo[u]r hono[u]rs Order for ye stateing his Acctiuity according to Musters And vppon ye stateing thereof to Order him paym[en]t of his Arrears as shal bee therevppon found due towards the better Inablinge yo[u]r poore petic[i]oner to beare his sadd & miserable Condic[i]on, without w[hi]ch hee is likelie to p[er]ishe;
And hee shall eu[e]r pray &c.
