The petition of Henry Smyth, Yorkshire, 23 November 1648

To the right wor[shi]p[fu]ll the Standing Com[m]ittee for Militia in the County of Yorke
The humble petic[i]on of Henry Smyth
Sheweth
That your pet[itio]n[e]r hath served the Parliament ever since the beginning of these differences, that when Sir Marmaduke Langdale raysed the Siege of Pontefract Castle about 3 yeares since your pet[itio]n[e]r then received a dangerous wound in the Thigh whereby is still disabled to worke for the maintenance of himselfe his wife & Childe, he further sheweth that at the siege of Yorke he had susteyned losse, by fire & plunder, to the value of fowerscore pounds, as may appeare, he is advertized by Doctor Troutbecke, that if he had meanes graunted him for his p[re]sent supportance, he would not doubt to recover the pet[itio]n[e]r his limbs.
Wherefore he humbly prayes that this board would be pleased to take the premises togeather with the pet[itio]n[e]rs distressed Condicon into Consideration & to graunt him such reliefe herein as in your wisdoms shall be thought meete.
And your pet[itio]n[e]r shall ever pray
