The petition of Henry Pope of Heath Charnock, Lancashire, Michaelmas 1677
To the right Worshipfull S[i]r Roger Bradshagh, S[i]r Peter Brookes S[i]r Edward Chisnall &c
The humble Petition & addresse of Henry Pope of Heath Charnock in the p[ar]ish of Standish most humbly sheweth
That wheras by Act of Parliament provision is made for reliefe of such maimed & indigent Souldiers as have faithfully served his majesty that now is or his late Father of blessed memory in the times of the late rebellion & usurpation
May it please y[ou]r hon[ou]rs y[ou]r Petitioner hath accordingly had & received 10 s. p[er] annum for some years by past, But your Petition[e]r growing very aged & much more impotent & indigent then formerly is necessitated to cast himself at your hon[ou]rs feet, imploring your assistance for some augmentation & additionall reliefe out of the moneys to be distributed as affores[ai]d
& y[ou]r Petition[e]r shall ever pray &c
These are to certifye that it doth appeare to us that Henry Pope aboves[ai]d was a Soldier in the late Kings service in the times of the late rebellion & usurpation & to the best of o[u]r knowledg or Information never deserted his Ma[jes]ties service, & that he was dangerously hurt & wounded in the s[ai]d service & hath not a sufficient livelihood of his owne, nor hath since his Ma[jes]ties returne obtained any reward office or Employment except 10 s. p[er] annum, Furthermore he is grown very aged & much more impotent & indigent by reason of the wounds received as affores[ai]d than formerly we therfore com[m]end him as a fitt object for some further additionall supply – witnesse o[u]r hands
