The petition of Henry Markland of Adlington, Lancashire, Michaelmas 1677

The humble Petic[i]on of Henry Markland of Adlington w[i]thin ye Hundred of Leyland
<Sheweth>
That whereas yo[u]r poore pet[itione]r is [illegible] An old infirme and lame p[er]son w[i]th lameness he contracted in the late warrs beinge a soldier in ye Kings service of Blessed Memory vnd[e]r the right hon[oura]ble James Earle of Darby beinge in the Garrison of Latham nere the space of three yeares. And further whereas in leiw of his sufferrings and service the Com[missione]rs allowed him 10 s. p[er] Ann[um] w[hi]ch yo[u]r pet[itione]r was well contented w[i]th but many of the said p[er]sons beinge dead and yo[u]r pet[itione]r growinge older and more infirme desires that his said Annuall Allowance may be amended
May if therefore please yo[u]r good wor[shi]ps to comiserate yo[u]r poore pet[itione]rs Case and to make him such further Allowance as yow in yo[u]r pious charity and piety shall thinke fitt &c And he will eu[er] pray &c
