The petition of Henry Glover of Ditton, Lancashire, Epiphany 1659

To the R[igh]t Worshipp[fu]ll the Justices of peace and Quor[um] att this pr[e]sente Sessions of the peace now assembled at Wigan.

The humble Petic[i]on of Henry Glouer now Liueinge in Ditton w[i]thin the Parish of Prescott

Sheweth

That yo[u]r petic[i]on[er] was borne in Torbocke w[i]thin the Parish of Pres Hugton wheere yo[u]r petic[i]on[er] Liued and continued for the space of Twenty years together or therabouts And afterwards yo[u]r petic[i]on[er] tooke vpp Armes in the Parlyame[n]ts Seruice and after some Continuance of tyme in Englande wente into Scotland vpon the Parlyam[en]ts seruice there & Continued in that seruice for the space of Fower yeares or therabouts, & yo[u]r petic[i]on[er] beinge marryed came into England againe & Liued in Halewood & Little Woolton w[i]thin the Parish of Childwell for the space of Fower yeares or therabouts & aboute May laste yo[u]r petic[i]on[er] Remoued into Ditton w[i]thin the Parish of Prescott wheere hee now Liueth And yo[u]r petic[i]on[er]s wife aboute Michalmas laste fallinge sicke & soe continueinge for the space of Two monthes or therabouts & yo[u]r petic[i]on[er] havinge Little or noe meanes to Releeue her w[i]thall was enforced to sell those small bedstead goods hee had for the Releefe of his said wife & Three small Children (& his said wife beinge now lately dead) hee hath noe meanes att all lefte to maintaine himselfe or Children w[i]thall:

Maye it theerefore please yo[u]r worshipps the pr[em]isses Considered to allowe vnto yo[u]r petic[i]on[er] out of some of the afforesaid Parishes wheere yo[u]r worshipps shall thinke most fit some reasonable & competente allowance to b{e} paid quarterly vnto yo[u]r petic[i]on[er] for & towards the Rele{if} of his said Three small Children hee beinge altogether{r} vnable by his owne hand Labor & industrie to re{lieve} them w[i]thall. And yo[u]r poore petic[i]on[er] As howsoeuer bound will euer pray &c.
