The petition of Henry Dixon of Brinkworth, Wiltshire, 1 October 1661

To the right hon[ou]r[a]ble hon[ou]r[a]ble [sic.] and the rest of ye wor[shi]p[fu]ll Justices of the Peace for the Country of Wilts[hire] sittinge at Marlebrough this pr[e]sent Session Octo[ber]: 1o 1661

The humble petic[i]on of Henry Dixon of Brinkworth in the county afores[ai]d yeomen

Sheweth

That yo[u]r pet[itione]r serued his late Ma[jes]tie of euer blessed memory vnder the Com[m]and of the truly honored Col[one]l Thomas Howard in the Company of Capt[ain] Edward Nott duringe the tyme of these late vnhappy differences in w[hi]ch seruice yo[u]r petic[i]oner receiued many desperate wounds to the greate hazard of yo[u]r pet[itione]rs life, w[hi]ch are most apparrant to be seene, besids the Certificate hervnto Annexed will euidently manifest As also the many calamities yo[u]r pet[itione]r hath vndergone and still lyeth vnder menc[i]oned in the petic[i]on to the sayd certificate likewise Anexed yo[u]r pet[itione]r beinge now aged, and haueing noe way of subsistance but by the Charity of well disposed p[er]so[n]s Do pr[e]sume to apply himselfe to this hon[ou]r[a]ble & wor[shi]p[fu]ll Bench the Auncient place of releefe for such maimed p[er]sons as yo[u]r pet[itione]r

Yo[u]r poore pet[itione]r doe most humbly implore yo[u]r hono[u]r & the rest of this Wor[shi]p[fu]ll Bench that an Annuall Pencheon may be conferred [illegible] on yo[u]r poore pet[itione]r that yo[u]r pet[itione]r may not p[er]ish through want And soe yo[u]r p[e]t[itione]rs hoary heade goe w[i]th sorrow to the graue

And yo[u]r pet[itione]r shall euer be bound to pray &c

Allowe this petic[i]oner 20 s. a q[uar]ter to be paid by the Treasurer of the north
