To the Right Wor[shi]pfull the standing Comittee at Kendall
The Humble Petition of Henry Beck
Humbly sheweth vnto yo[u]r wor[shi]ps that yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r beinge Listed under Colonell Bellingham form[e]rly & since vnder Capt[ain] Johnson, yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r beinge at Sherburne Battaile, was desp[er]ately wounded there, that hee lay vpon p[er]ill of death for the space of 14 weekes & vpwards, where and as yet hee is not soe recou[e]red as that he is able to doe any more seruice for the state, wherevpon yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r lieinge soe longe vnder the Surgians hands, it cost him far more then his pay will Extend to, yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]rs pay beinge behind for 13 weekes already, And further yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r sheweth vnto you that at the first rayseinge of the Troope yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r had 2 li. 10 s. out of the Hamlet towards the buying of a Horse, w[hi]ch Horse the last winter fell Laime & yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r was forct to buy another of his owne cost for the seruice, w[hi]ch said Laime horse hath cost him verie neare 2 li., yet notwithstandinge Capt[ain] Johnson tooke the Horse from yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r for the publicke w[i]thout paying any charges for him but left it vnto yo[u]r judicious considerac[i]on.
The Earnest request of yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r therefore is that you wil be pleased to let him haue his arrears paid him, & likewise to consider of yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]rs charge more then his pay will Extend to, in beinge soe wounded & further you wil be pleased to let him haue satisfac[i]on conc[e]rninge the keepeinge of the Lame horse w[hi]ch now is taken from him & yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r when god shall strengthen him hereafter will be readie to serue you.
Kendall 6 Febr[uary] 1645
Ordered that ye tre[asure]r shall pay to ye pet[itione]r the som[m]e of Fiue pounds fiue shillings in full satisfacc[i]on of all his arrears of pay & other demaunds due till this day.
