The petition of Henry Archers of Whiston, Lancashire, 10 April 1654

To the Right Wor[shipfu]ll the Justices of peace & Quorum for this present sessions houlden at Orm[skir]k Aprill the 10th 1654
The humble pet[ition] of Henry Archers a sould[ie]r for Whiston late In Scotland vnder the Lord Generall now his highnesse the Lord Protector &c
Humbly sheweth
That In December Anno Domini 1651 your pet[itioner] being In Scotland vnder his highnesse & In his own Regiment was permitted and allowed vnder his hand & seale to passe to Whiston in this County In regard of his age & vnability and to bee allowed releife as should bee thought Fitt by a weekly pay, vpon which certificate your poor pet[itione]r did deliuer the s[ai]d Order Into this Court 2 yeares agoe & had Order from the wor[shipfu]ll Bench to haue pay accordingly. Neuerthelesse your pet[itioner] hath not receiued any thing but xxiii s. to releife himselfe his wife & 2 Childr[en] all this long time.
The Premisses Considered the pet[itioner] humbly prayeth this wor[shipfu]ll Bench to take into Considerac[i]on his great greiuances, that hee is not able to subsist vpon thes small allowances and to grant him releife according to his highnesse Order or to grant him his Order & passe already assign’d by this wor[shipfu]ll Bench that he may trauell to gett some Competent Meanes for his & his familys releife & your pet[itione]r as in duty Bound will euer pray &c
