The petition of Henery Hartley of Simonstone, Lancashire, Epiphany 1661

To right wor[shi]ppp[fu]ll [sic.] ye Justices of ye peace for ye Sessions att Preston
The petic[i]on of Henery Hartley
Sheweth vnto yo[u]r good Worshipps that whereas Nicholas Robert late of Symonstone w[i]thin the County of Lanc[aster] afores[ai]d was Ordered & appointed (for the affares and warrs then beinge) to make or p[ro]cure a man to beare & carry his Arms. And yt he ye s[ai]d John Roberts then & at ye same tyme did Couen[a]nt & agree to & w[i]th yo[u]r pet[itione]r yt if he yo[u]r pet[itione]r wold vndertake ye s[ai]d seruice & cary & fight for him ye said Nicklas Rob[er]t yt he ye s[ai]d Nich[olas] would mainteyne & keepe him ye s[ai]d Henery Hartley if in yt seruice ye s[ai]d Henery should thereby receauce or haue any hurt or harme too & dureinge ye terme of his ye s[ai]d Henery Hartleys life
And now soe it is may it plese yo[u]r good Wor[shi]pps yt yo[u]r pet[itione]r was in ye same said seruice wounded maim[e]d & lamed soe yt he is not able to worke for his livelihood but is likely to begg or starue for yt soe ye s[ai]d Nich[ola]s Rob[er]t is dead & that John Rob[er]t his sone & onely heire doe denie & refuse to keepe or maneteyn yo[u]r poore pet[itione]r.
May it therefore please y[ou]r good Wor[shi]pps to take such order therein for yo[u]r pet[itione]rs releife as to yo[u]r W[o]r[shi]ps shall seeme fitt &c
