The petition of Hellen Crosby, Derbyshire, 20 May 1647

To the worthy & wor[shi]p[fu]ll Com[m]ittee for this County of Darby the humble pet[i]c[i]on of Hellen Crosby late wife Ric to Richard Crosby

Humbly sheweth

That whereas her sayd husband was a souldier for the Parlament vnder the Com[m]and [of] Coronall Gell in the Company of Maior Molines aboue 3 yeares: And whereas her sayd husband was most vnfortunately slayne at the legure before Newarke, by which maynes your peti[tio]ner is made a poor disconsolate widdow w[i]th 3 fatherlesse Children, and her husband was at his death many monthes in Arreare of his pay as may appeare under Maior Molines his hande:

These be therefore most humbly, & ernestly to intreate & beseech your good Wor[shi]ps soe much to tender and Compassionat the lamentable Condici[o]n of a poore widdow your present petitioner, as in pitty to Consider the premises, and to grant her poore request w[he]rew[i]th you wil be pleased to grant her 5 li. w[hi]ch shal be to the getting prentis of 2 of Children: [sic.] And your petic[i]oner as by duty bound will ever pray &c.

<May 20th 1647>

It is ordered that Mr Buxton pay Elen Crosby for her pr[e]sent subsistence & her childrens the sume of Twenty shillings.
