The petition of Griffith Davies of Hereford (All Saints Parish), Herefordshire, 1680
To the Right wor[shi]ppfull James Prise Esq[ui]r[e] Major of the Citty of Hereff[ord], and to others the wor[shi]pfull Justices of peace of the said Citty.
The humble petic[i]on of Griffith Davies of the parish of All Saints within the said Citty a poore Laboureinge man Aged 70 yeares, and vpwards;
Most humbly supplicateinge The rather, in regard And for that your petic[ione]r beinge a poore aged man haveinge a weake sickly wife of the age of Fowerscore years, & vpwards Liveinge within the said parish & Citty for above forty yeares past by true, & laborious paines takeinge without havinge any Charitable support from this Citty hitherto, Where longe since your petic[ione]r first takeinge vpp Armes in his Ma[jes]ties Royall fathers seruice in the Regiment of the late hono[u]rable Collonell Coningsby in the marchinge Army Wherein your petic[ione]r was maymed as by inspecc[i]on might appeare, & beinge formerly Admitted some small penc[i]on from this County (amongst others, is now debard of the one halfe of his said penc[i]on, & cast vpon this City, where he first tooke vpp Armes in expectancy of Relieffe;
The pr[e]misses most favoureably Considered, May it please Your Wor[shi]pps Consideringe the greate Age, weakenes, & lowe Condic[i]on of your petic[ione]r, & his wife to order your petic[ione]r some certaine weekely Alloweance out of the said parish of All Saints towards his relieffe in healpe to pay Rent for a small habitac[i]on to harbour in, And your petic[ione]r & his poore aged wife shall allwaies pray &c.
