The petition of Griffin Morgan of Molland, Devon, 1664

To the right Wor[shipfu]ll his Ma[jes]ties Justices of the Peace Att the gen[er]all Quarter Sessions held for the County of Devon now Assembled
The humble petic[i]on of Griffin Morgan of the p[ar]ish of Molland in the County of Devon husbandman
<Sheweth>
That whereas yo[u]r petic[i]oner was (in the late vnhappy Warr) Prest for his Ma[jes]ties service of famous memory vnder the Commaund of Captaine Yeo, by whose Commande hee went with him at the seiges of Lyme and Taunton & seuerall other places, where the peticon[e]r alwayes manifested his true Loyalty by his contynuall Vallour and dilligence, as by a Certificate vnder the hand of his said Captaine ready to be shewed, appeareth, soe it is may it please yo[u]r Wor[shi]pps that at the seige of Taunton after many & daungerous Assaults, at last yo[u]r pet[itione]r was thrust through with a holbert in his thigh, and shott throrough the other thigh with a bullett all from & by the Enemy, and yet was not himselfe taken, but tooke some of the Eenemyes and brought them away; But by the said thrust and shott was soe mahaymed, that hee is disabled to gett his liueing as formerly, by his laboures, haueing a wife and 4 small Children to mentayne;
Hee therefore humbly prayeth That yo[u]r Wor[shi]pps would be pleased to grante him his Ma[jes]ties yearely pention out of the Common treasury for Mahaymed Souldiers towards his subsistance for terme of his life
And hee shall pray &c.
