The petition of Gilbert Austin of Christow, Devon, 1684

To John Beare Esq[ui]r[e] and other his Ma[jes]ties Justices of the peace att the Castle of Exon Assembled
The Humble Petition of Gilbert Austin of the Parish of Christow in this County Husbandman
Humbly Sheweth
That whereas your poor Petioner for a longe space served our most gracious Soveraigne Lord Kinge Charles the first of blessed memory att Yorke and did alsoe therein receive and suffer severall Considerable Wounds and bruses by meanes whereof your poor Petitioner is become altogeather vncapacitated to worke and labour or to maintaine his family in such manner and sort as he ought and doth heartily wish hee were able to doe being now become very aged and infirme
Yo[u]r poor Petitioner therefore humbly prayes yo[u]r Worships to grant him such yearely penc[i]on or reliefe out of the County Stock for his pr[e]sent Support & maintainance & likewise for his future subsistance as to your worships Clemency and your poor Petitioners great necessity shall seeme most consant [sic.]
