The petition of George Nowell of Biddestone, Wiltshire, Michaelmas 1661

To the Right honourable the Justices of the quarter Sessions held at Marlebourgh within the County of Wiltes[hire]

The humble petition of George Nowell of Bidsone in the said County of Wiltes[hire] husbandm[an]

Sheweth that whereas yo[u]r petition[e]r being heretofore a privett souldier and alwayes very reall for and in the behalfe of his ma[jes]tie King Charles the first of ever blessed memorie (against his then enemies) vnder the command of Lievetennant Collonell Henry Thyne was dangerously wounded by an vnhappie cutt in his Right hand which hee receiv[e]d at the Devizes by meanes whereof yo[u]r poore petition[e]r have almost lost the vse of his said right hand which makes him not able in any case to Maintaine himselfe and his famalie he haveing noe estate at all to subsist by but his owne Labour.

The humble desire therefore of yo[u]r petition[e]r is that he may have sume yearely stipend or Pintion allowed him for the reliefe of him and his famalie According to and as it shall seeme fitting to yo[u]r grave Judgments And yo[u]r petition[e]r shall ever pray for yo[u]r honours healthes and happinesse.
