The petition of George Knight of Taunton, Somerset, ?1660

To the Ho[noura]ble Justices of Peace for the County of Somersett att their Session in Ivelchester
The humble petic[i]on of George Knight of Taunton in the County of Somersett Carpenter
Sheweth
That yo[u]r pet[itione]r in the tyme of King Charles the first of ever blessed memory duringe the space of Eighteene monethes or thereabouts, when a souldier in his Ma[jes]ties service vnder the Conduct of Henry Wynter Captain of a foote Companie in the Regiment of S[i]r John Stawell was (att the stormeinge and takinge the Wyndmill Fort of Bristoll since called the Royal Fort, there) much wounded in that service, and lamed in both Armes Insomuch That he is not able to vse his hands att his Trade, or any other imploym[en]t for obtayne[m]ent of food.
Humbly praieth That in tender considerac[i]on of yo[u]r pet[itione]rs deplorable Condic[i]on, he havinge a wife and Fower children, wantinge meanes for his and theire livelyhood & support Yo[u]r Hono[u]rs wil be pleased to conferr & settle vpon him (yo[u]r poore pet[itioner]) an yearlie pension for a mayntenance duringe his life as all maymed souldiers in the Kings service have byn accustomed by order of a Session to have & receive And yo[u]r pet[itione]r shal be bound ever in duty to pray for yo[u]r hon[ou]rs &c.
Wee order the petitioner to be admitted a pencioner uppo[n] a full certificate of his loyalty to ye late Kinge Charles, & to haue from henceforth fower poundes by ye yeare payd vnto him, xx s. quarterly, by ye treasurer of the Hospitalls in ye west.
