The petition of George Fentham, Cheshire, Easter 1650

To the ho[noura]ble Judges of Assise sitting at Westchest[e]r.

The humble pet[itio]n of George Fentham troop[er] vnd[e]r the Comand of Lieut[enant] Col[one]l Clyve.

Humbly Sheweth

That your pet[itione]r haveing truely and faithfully served the parliam[en]t & State was Maymed and lost the benefitt of his lymbes vpon raising of the Seige at Hyarkam in Shropshire. And in regard he was maimed in that county and borne in Cheshire his Complaint was remanded to the Comettes in Cheshire and they ordered him 3 li. p[er] Ann[um] for the livelyhood of hime and his Charge; and he hath not receaued thereout but one yeares pay these fower yeares; w[hi]ch w[i]th his Costs and charges for attendance hath vtterly vndone him his wife and charge and are like to p[er]ish vnless speedely releeved by yo[u]r Lo[rdshi]pps.

In tend[e]r Comisserac[i]on yo[u]r pet[itione]r humbly ymploreth yo[u]r Lo[rdshi]pps That according to yo[u]r Lo[rdshi]pps promisse at Shrowesbury to ord[e]r yo[u]r pet[itione]r releefe for the future livelyhood of him his wife and Child, Agreable to the Maymed souldiers pay in Shropshire, or otherwise for his establishm[en]t in Cheshire as in yo[u]r pious wisdomes yo[u]r Lo[rdshi]pps shall thinke meete and the rather in regard yo[u]r Pet[itione]r is put of from tyme to tyme w[i]thout satisfac[i]on & remeaines in a deplorable Condic[i]on.

And yo[u]r pet[itione]r shall pray &c

I desire the Justices of the peace of this county accordinge to the or[er] in and of Parliam[en]t made for the releife of maymed sowldiers to take care that the pet[itione]r haue a competent pension yearely allowed him, hee beinge as it appeares last setled in this County and therefore by the said ordinance here to bee mainteyned. And that they will not only take care for his subsistence for the future but to order him the arreares of his pension due and vnpaid vnto him.
