The petition of George Corke of Skipton, West Riding of Yorkshire, April 1674

To the Right Wor[shi]pp[ful]l his Ma[jes]ties Justices of the peace for ye s[ai]d Ryding.

The humble petic[i]on of George Corke of Skipton within ye s[ai]d Ryding.

Humbly sheweth.

That yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r is a faithfull Loyall good subject of our Sov[er]aigne yt now is, And hath served the late King his father all along ye late unhappy warr in sev[e]rall p[ar]ts of ye Kingdom und[e]r com[m]and of Lord Langdall and thereby lost & consumed his tyme, his blood & estate, and now grows ould & cannot well helpe himselfe as hee hath hitherto done by his labour & paines takeing Now soe it is yt yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r hath beene pr[o]mised from tyme to tyme yt if any penc[i]oner dyed hee should bee remembered by ye first yt soe fell if hee moved for it.

Therefore yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r humbly Craves yo[u]r good Wor[shi]pps to bestow ye penc[i]on now fallen by ye death of one John Smith of Skipton being ye sum[m]e of fourty six shillings & eight pence p[er] Ann[um] as an Addition to his yo[u]r peticon[e]rs small penc[i]on of xx s. a yeare for yo[u]r s[ai]d petic[i]on[e]rs better releife now in his ould age and hee in duty bound will ever pray for yo[u]r Wor[shi]pps health &c.

We conceive yo[u]r petic[i]on[e]r deserves to have his penc[i]on augmented, this petic[i]on therefore considered wee doe ord[e]r the s[ai]d petic[i]on[e]r to have ye said John Smiths penc[i]on as an addition for his releife and to be soe entred att Pontefract sessions next dated March 18th 1673[4]:
