The petition of Georg Burrowes of Taunton, Somerset, 1 February 1661

To the R[igh]t Wor[shipfu]ll the Justices of the Peace for the County of Som[er]s[e]t now in Ses[sion]s assembled.
The humble Petic[i]on of Georg Burrowes.
Sheweth.
That yo[u]r Pet[icion]er being an Appr[e]ntice in Taunton in the yeare 1644, was enforced by his Master to goe out vpon the Lyne, where he receiued a Shott, by a Cannon bullett w[hi]ch took away his right hand, that he hath five small Children, & being not able to gett any mainteynance by the labour of his hands for himselfe wife or Children, nor haueing noe Estate att all to afford any comfort or Reliefe to him or his Famyly he is reduced to great distresse & want. And doth therefore
Humbly desires yo[u]r Hono[u]rs Wor[shi]pps to look on his distresse w[i]th the Eye of Pitty, & to pr[e]serve him & his family from perishing, to Vouchsafe to conferr on him such a competent pension, as his necessity require, & to your wisedomes & charityes shall seeme Expedient.
And yo[u]r poore Pet[itione]r shall be eu[er] bound to pray for your Wor[shi]pps.
<Wee desire doe order yt this bearer George Burrowes bee allowed three pownds a yeare out of ye Treasury of ye Maymed Soldiars monys Giuen vnder our handes this 1st day of Feb[ruary] 1660:>
