The petition of Georg Barton of Pershall, Staffordshire, September 1651

To the Right Wo[rshi]pfull the Justices of peace for ye County of Stafford
The humble pettition of Georg Barton of the towne of Pearsall in the County of Stafford.
<Sheweth> That yo[u]r peticioner beinge Listed souldier vnder ye Com[m]and of Capt[ain] Coucknidge for the seruice of ye parli[a]ment in w[hi]ch service & vnder w[hi]ch sayd Com[m]und did rec[eive] a wound in his backe into his boddie, by w[h]ich he is disabled to worke at all, he rec[eived], the sayd wound by shott att a fight at Tonge besides many other wounds w[hi]ch he omitts to speake of.
Wherefore yo[u]r petic[i]oner humbleley prayeth yo[u]r w[o]r[shi]ps to Consider his deplorable estate and to afford him the like meanes (being a dangerously maymed man) as to others of the like nature is allowed and as the lawe in that case p[ro]vides for such men affords soe will yo[u]r petic[i]oner
