The petition of Francis Pratt of Weldon, Northamptonshire, Michaelmas 1682

To the Right Hon[ou]r[a]ble his Ma[jes]ties Justices of the Peace for the sayd County now assembled att North[amp]ton this pr[e]sent Mich[ael]m[a]s Quarter Sessions Anno Regni Caroli S[e]c[un]di nunc Regis Angliae &c xxxiiiio Annoq[ue] d[o]mi[ni] 1682.
The humble Petition of Francis Pratt of Weldon in ye s[ai]d County.
Humbly shewing to yo[u]r Hono[u]rs.
That yo[u]r Petitioner haveing been actually in the Warrs of o[u]r late dread Sou[er]aigne Lord King Charles the first of blessed memory; and was one of the first that raysed Armes & beate vp drum[m]s for Vallentiers in this county for his sayd sacred Ma[jes]ties service against his Rebells, for which he escaped hanging very narrowly, and haveing received many wounds and scarrs in his body in his sayd Ma[jes]ties service in the said warrs, the markes whereof will be visible to his dying day, and being then a souldier in the sayd warrs in the Regim[en]t of Collonell Griffin & vnder his Com[m]and (as may appeare by the said Collonell’s Certificate on yo[u]r said Peticoners behalfe and herevnto annexed) and was very often in danger of looseing his life in the sayd warrs, and being now growne very aged of seaventy yeares & vpwards & infirme & vnable to gett his living as form[er]ly:
The pr[e]misses considered yo[u]r Petitioner humbly prayes yo[u]r Hono[u]rs favo[u]rs to grant him an Annuall Pention of 3 li. p[er] ann[um] to be Quarterly paid him dureing his life by the Treasurers of this County and that the first Quarterly paym[en]t thereof may beginn and be paid vnto him att this pr[e]sent Mich[ael]m[a]s Quarter Sessions, And yo[u]r Petic[i]oner shall humbly pray for yo[u]r Hono[u]rs &c.
