The petition of Francis Glubb of Tavistock, Devon, 1683

To the worship[fu]ll Justices of the Peace for this County of Deuon, the Humble Petition of Francis Glubb of Tauistocke in ye said County

<Humbly Sheweth>

That whereas yo[u]r poore Petitio[ne]r hath Euer serued his Late Maiestie of Euer Blessed Memory, Both beyond the seas St Martens Cales and dangerously wounded in Expedition of the Isle of Rey and allso Aduenterous for his Maiest[ie]s forces against the Scotts in the North, and likewise faithfull in his designes, and dangerous Attemts, during the Continuance of our Late vnhappy Warrs, being Allso the trusty Footpost, or Messenger for all his Maiest[ie]s Generalls, and officers of the Westerne Army, through all haszards, in the Excecutio[n] of his Charge, and in Prosecution was twice Taken Prisoner, and suffered Long and Miserable Imprisonment, the one in the Citty of Exon the other in Plymouth vndergon great hardship, and by Reason of his wounds and his Greate Age being 90 yeares of Age, booth Conspire to weaken him, and his working, and Trauiling being at an End yo[u]r poore Petitio[ne]r is Imbouldned to waite on yo[u]r Worsh[i]ps Goodnis for redresse Beseaching you wil be pleased of your Goodnis to Grant him A small stipend for his small time he Remaine, to Confort and Ease his wants, in his distressed and decrepit yeares.

and yo[u]r Poore Petitio[ne]r shall Euer Pray for yo[u]r worsh[i]ps happines & long life heere and Eternall happinise in yt to Come
