The petition of Francis Chipendale of Farnley, West Riding of Yorkshire, and John Swale of Follifoot, West Riding of Yorkshire, 28 April 1674

To the Right Hono[ura]ble his Ma[jes]ties Justices of ye Peace at ye Generall Quart[e]r Sessions holden at Pontifract ye 28th of April 1674

The Humble Pittic[i]on of Francis Chipendale of Farnley and Sergant John Swale of Follyfoote, Penconors w[i]thin ye Weapontake of Claroe.

Humbly Sheweth

That Whereas yo[u]r s[ai]d pitticc[i]on[e]rs (by reason of their Loyalty to his late Ma[jes]tie of blessed memory) was Admitted penc[i]on[e]rs w[i]thin ye s[ai]d Weapontake who vpon ye first Admittance had granted betwixt fiue pounds p[er] Annu[m] (vizt Francis Chipendale forty shillings p[er] Annu[m] And Sergant Swale thre pounds p[er] Annu[m]), But since ye first Admittance the penc[i]onors being soe exceeding numerous w[i]thin ye s[ai]d Weapontake caused yo[u]r pitticc[i]on[e]rs penc[i]ons to be reduced to a very small vallue of fiue nobles p[er] Annu[m] betwixt ym boath vizt one of one of ym haueing but 3 s. 4 d. and ye other but 5 s. And they being boath of them very Aged and inf{irm} haueing great Charges of Children is scarce able to subsist Excep{t} {two words missing} be pleased to Add to there pencons ye Morts lately falne w[i]thin y{e} {one word missing} That is to say Will[ia]m Leeds late of Colt house and Anthony Wright of Knaresbrough.

Which yo[u]r pitticonors humbly craues that yo[u]r h{onours} would be pleased to certifie ye Treasurer in this {one word missing}

And they as in duty will euer pray.

And wee allsoe desire that Will[ia]m Johnson of Gold{rest of word missing} may haue Richard Trees of Arkendale pencon being added to his hee being very poore and allwayes loyal
